APPLE PIE WITH ICE CREAM: MAPLE-WALNUT ROASTED APPLE WITH ICE CREAM
Apple pie with ice cream, a la mode, is our favorite dessert. And the first one to go when you start a diet or start to workout. The healthy version is simple: get rid of the crust and the extra sugar in the filling.
Easy. Cook the apple, add some walnuts for healthy oils and one scoop of low-fat ice cream. It will have all of the flavor and very little calories. It’s important to control portion size, especially how much ice cream you eat!
You can switch it up by adding different types of nuts, or even apples and pears.
VANILLA ICE CREAM WITH HOT FUDGE: VANILLA ICE CREAM WITH STRAWBERRIES AND NUTS
Once again, portion size control is our best friend. Instead of a whole cup of ice cream, make it half a cup of low-fat ice cream.
Next: forget about the fudge. We both know it is just a lot of sugar and unnecessary calories. We work hard for our bodies, let’s not ruin it now.
Instead of hot fudge, we’ll have some strawberries and nuts. This way, we’ll feel full and satisfied for longer, while giving our bodies vitamins, oils and minerals that we need.
CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH FROSTING: CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH BLUEBERRIES AND RASPBERRIES
controlling portion size, cut down on the amount of cake to make it a real treat. If it is homemade, you can control the amount of sugars, the type of flour used and control the fat in it too. And don’t even get me started on preservatives.
If you buy the cake, buy an unfrosted one. Dust it with confectioner’s sugar and add half a cup of any sort of berries for flavour and nutrients.
CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE: OATMEAL-PEANUT BUTTER TRAIL BAR
A chocolate chip cookie has all of the ingredients we need to avoid: sugar, butter and white flower.
Instead of white flower, we’ll have whole wheat, which is packed full of fiber and nutrients.
To make it delicious, peanut butter will give us protein and healthy fats.
It is a great snack and can be eaten on the go. It can even have some dried fruit for extra nutrients and flavor.
CHOCOLATE PUDDING: TEFF-CHOCOLATE PUDDING
Teff is a whole gran staple originally from Ethiopia. It contains dietary fiber, iron, protein and calcium.
It achieves a smooth, thick consistency because it releases starch when it is being cooked.
Simply cook the teff and blend with a banana, a third of a cup of coconut milk, cocoa and sugar or any other sweetener, vanilla extract, ground ginger, ground cloves, and a pinch of salt.
Let it chill for 2 hours and top with hazelnut and coconut flakes.
