The Cornell University Food and Brand Lab in Ithaca, New York, researched on the effects of having tempting food around. Brian Wansink, who directs the the Lab, designed an experiment in which they gave a group of workers candies in clear plates, and another group the same candies in opaque plates.

This was done so to test, not just how much you are tempted by having food around, but to also understand how much it affects you to see it there, tempting you.

The results, impressive. Those with the candy in clear plates, where candy could be seen clearly, helped themselves a whopping 71% more than the group with opaque plates.

The conclusion is simple, do not keep tempting food around. And if you absolutely have to, then make sure you keep it out of sight!

 


SKIPPING BREAKFAST

Losing weight is not as simple as it seems. It is not just a matter of not eating.

Yes, reducing portion sizes helps. But mostly, it is about eating right and exercising.

Skipping meals might seem like a good idea at first. Scientific research, however, shows thAt those who eat breakfast, lose weight faster and also keep it off for longer.

In fact, a lot of research has been done on the subject and has concluded that eating a big breakfast of 600 calories is the best way to start your day. It must have protein, carbohydrates and as many nutrients as possible.

A great breakfast would be a banana, chocolate and strawberry smoothie and cereal with nuts, fruits and milk. Enjoy!

 


DISTRACTED EATING

Whatever you are doing deserves your whole attention. Eating is not an exception.

If you are on the phone, on facebook, watching TV or on your computer, you will not be listening to your body. What you probably will end up doing is eating too much.

It has even been shown that concentrating on what you eat, can even help you eat up to 125 calories less during the day than you would if you ate while distracted.
